Shanghai Sunrise is a non-profit that raises scholarship funds to support Shanghai’s urban poor to pursue higher education dreams. As an organization, they primarily
rely on a small network of individuals to raise funds and promote their activities. Shanghai Sunrise would like to expand its audience to broaden its promotion channels, as well as take advantage of best practices in fundraising to increase the effectiveness of its efforts.
Shanghai Sunrise has asked a Keru team to support their efforts by creating and prototyping a fundraising event. Students will conduct research on fundraising practices, establish a compilation of fundraising best
practices as it fits into the SHSR context, and actually conduct a prototype fundraiser. A final presentation will be made with key suggestions and best practices to
incorporate into Shanghai Sunrise’s strategy.
Shanghai Sunrise promotes education in Shanghai by facilitating sponsorships for thousands of students who otherwise would not have a chance to attend. Currently,
the need for scholarships far outweighs the number that the organization can provide
and too many young people are missing out on vital education. Shanghai Sunrise's
mission is to equip disadvantaged young people through education; to empower them to realize fulfilling careers, attain greater life opportunities and become positive forces
within their community.
