ONEVILLAGE
Maoming, Guangdong, China

OneVillage is a social enterprise founded by Donglan Zhang, originally from Nanyong Village in rural Guangdong. As one of a few from her village to attend college, Ms. Zhang wanted to use her education to benefit her hometown. OneVillage began as a collaboration between Ms. Zhang and several village residents to raise money for the construction of a concrete road to connect the village to the outside world. Sensing opportunity, they turned their focus to a business endeavor: the sale of specialty agriculture products to urban markets, made possible by the development of infrastructure. In doing so, they join a country-wide trend of rural villages that are emerging to participate in now-accessible national markets with previously hidden agriculture treasures.

COLLABORATION WITH KERU

Keru has been working with One Village for the past two years involving projects including the promotion of Nanyong Village’s local produce, Sanhua Plums. Keru has also conducted ecological impact assessment reports on the local environment, letting farmers understand more about the conditions in which they work. Keru is excited to continue our work with One Village this spring to improve the economic conditions of Nanyong Village.
