Along with China's rapid development, economic and societal pressure has increased the number of migrant workers leaving their hometowns to work in larger cities. As a result, many children are left-behind as their parents seek better job opportunities elsewhere. China’s left behind children face life challenges in life that can result in lower levels of social and emotional learning development. The Stanford Rural Education and Action Program (REAP) identified this lack of access to quality education resources and an absence of parental involvement as a large challenge to social stability in China.
