ENERGY ACTION PARTNERS
Sabah, Malaysia

Energy Action Partners (ENACT) specializes in leading collaborative efforts to improve access to sustainable energy. While designing and implementing programs with substantial community participation, they prioritize capacity building outcomes and achieve deeper and lasting impact. ENACT partners with communities, project developers and other stakeholders to collaboratively plan, deploy and manage sustainable energy systems that contribute to holistic development. ENACT also runs field-based courses for young adults interested in social impact. Topics cover energy technology, organizational models for social change, and community development. They employ a hands-on approach that integrates technical skills with practical experience from the field.

COLLABORATION WITH KERU

In Summer 2019, a Keru Team spent a week in a small, rural village in Sabah, Malaysia, working with ENACT and interacting with the local community to gain practical skills in designing renewable energy systems that support and facilitate community development. Lesson topics covered energy system technology, methods and tools for community engagement, perspectives on human and community development, and models for a social enterprise. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on projects, and community interaction, the Keru Team worked on designing off-grid renewable energy systems to support and facilitate community development. The results of this project were in the format of proposed solutions for the different energy sustainability challenges faced in rural communities, presented in person to the ENACT leadership.

In Winter 2019, the Keru Team will return to Sabah to work with ENACT to propose solutions for the awareness, improvement, and development of their game-based teaching technology for rural energy systems. The Keru Team will assess the Minigrid Game and add new communications solutions for the advancement of this technology.
